Remaking Norse Wars as Stand-alone Game?

Any interest for the project? Haven't quite seen a game like Norse Wars since AOM/AOE3 died, and it seems like if DoTA can lead to a stand-alone game (DoTA2, LoL), it's not that far a stretch to see Norse Wars becoming one as well (if we can get a team around it).

I've been out of the game development scene too long though and don't know where all the modders/designers have gone (or if that's still a big thing in the newer games, which seem largely locked down from an editing standpoint).  Just putting this out there to see if maybe some of us have gone into game development professionally or know of anyone that might be interested in getting this together.

Thanks Ra.  I'm asking around a lot to figure out what kind of help I can get at the moment.

Does anyone happen to have gameplay footage of NW by any chance? It would help get more developers interested as it's hard to demo the game now that ESO is dead (and since the AI doesn't really play).

Added a basic video against AI for now:

If anyone wants to play and record a real game, let me know.

I'm somewhat familiar with scripting/programming, though nothing near game developing  :-\

I'd be happy to help out. I've done a lot of programming and touched on game dev before :)

Awesome. Glad to hear.

Ra and I are currently looking for existing RTS packages on Unity so we

don't have to start from scratch. At the moment just trying to get a basic

functioning prototype together. Also if you have AOMT on Steam, we're also

trying to record a game with a handful of players at some point so we can

show what the game is like to newcomers.

Some resources I'm looking at so far:
- Free AI engine: http://rivaltheory.com/rain/
- Some free RTS assets: http://forum.unity3d.com/threads/100-free-fantasy-rts-assets.65211/

I figure if we can get a skeleton for the game going, we can always replace the models later with higher quality stuff.

Not sure how many of you are around, but I've spent enough of the past couple years doing UE4 stuff that I feel comfortable making a game from scratch now if there's enough interest to collaborate on a Norse Wars remake.  To do Norse Wars justice, it's going to be a lot of work, so I don't think I'd want to tackle this solo.  But I've done enough now that I can personally do most everything including the multiplayer networking.  Not something I'm planning to tackle in the immediate term, but just putting feelers out there to see what kind of interest + help I could get later in the year.

Super keen to help out. I should note that almost all of my game-dev experience was back in 2016-2017 and was Unity based. I do mostly web-based programming (front, back, database etc) these days but I'm no stranger to software either.

Working with UE4 sounds super fun and interesting and I am keen to help out. Worst-case scenario I can make a pretty gnarly website for the new game haha :D

Thanks good to hear from some of you. I'll post things here as I start later in the year.  I have some things I started a few years ago when I was attempting to outsource the game, but that didn't go anywhere (hence why I'm looking at doing it myself now).

Here's some temporary stuff if you're curious.  If anyone wants to help with website/art/etc, feel free.
https://www.norsewars.com/nwx/ (screenshots are actual from test UE4 maps I did a few years ago, disregard the kickstarter, no longer relevant)

Almost forgot but I actually composed a remix of the Norse song at the beginning of the game as well:

Had a bit of fun creating a new website for NorseWars:
https://norsewars.milkmanmatty.com.au/

Only after I finished it did I check and see that the current server is linux. This website is run on .Net (not .Net Core) on a tiny server on premises. Anyway let me know if you like it.

It has been so long, I kind of walked away from IT. Went back to uni and studying philosophy now but I’m watching this with excitement I had some of the best times with you guys on this. I’m sorry I won’t be much help on the coding

Nice - it looks pretty legit.  Where did you get the images? Only thing I

might change is the header font (the thick text for Norse Wars and few

other headers) - everything else looks epic but that font looks like Clash

of Clans or something lol
